Tip #1 : Learn to overcome the fear of judgement

Frequently, some passionated people never dare to show their work by fear of judgement and critic… What a waste ! Think about all these masterpieces, all these artistic treasures gathering dust in drawers that the world will never know !
Or, there are also artists who modify their creations in order to appeal to the others. We finally end up with mainstream and denatured « products », not really artistic anymore.
But also, there are « Artists of life », these people who love Art, who dream to live like Artists but don't dare to get free as Artists generally are (wear particular clothes, have an unusual lifestyle…). This fear also dampens the appearance of their « Internal Artist ».
The fear of judgement is widespread. That is why so many Artists have troubles to express themselves as they are. And although some artists are extraordinary talented, this fear is a real obstacle.
Nevertheless, as every fear, it can be defeated…
You want to know how to fight it ? I invite you to read this article : « 10 challenges to fight the fear of judgement ».
The Owlie’s word : « You are wondering what I mean by « Artists of life » ? On Brave Arts, we consider as « Artist « every person who is sensitive, receptive to Art, along with « Artists who create ». We just took the liberty to call them « Artists of life » in order to let them know that they also are Artists following us.
Tip #2 : Choose your own references
The references are celebrities, artists, characters, pieces of Art, artistic movements… that compose your main sources of inspiration.
Artists draw from it to create.
« Artists of life » draw from it to lead their life staying true to who they are, to what agrees with them.
However, if the choice of your references is influenced by others and not sincere, it will not bring you this precious inspiration. Inspiration comes from a connection between your creativity and one (or several) outside element(s). If this connection does not happen, inspiration will not come.
If your references are really sincere, you should be able to answer these 3 questions :
- Can I explain the reasons why I chose it ?
- Does it fit with my values ? What I like ? What I defend ?
- Am I strangely excited and more talkative when I talk about it ?
You know now how to make sure your references are really YOURS. But influence acts everywhere around you.
You want to make sure that your are not influenced in your life ? Feel free to read this article : « 4 questions to ask to know if you are influenced ».
Tip #3 : Banish the word « impossible » from your vocabulary
Well, yes ! Nothing is impossible to an Artist.
The Artist is the master of his own Universe. He creates the world into which he lives by his interpretation of it. As he leads his own world, nothing is impossible for him.
Artists are able to share their world, to express it by their work (paintings, films, songs, dishes…).
Artists of life have the chance to live in this world in total freedom, in harmony with the real world.
The Owlie’s word : « Do you think that the greatest revolutions (artistic or not) of History would have happened if the protagonists had constantly repeated the word « impossible » ?

Tip #4 : Strike out into the unknown

Be curious ! The world is full of extraordinary things waiting for you to establish the connection and stimulate your inspiration.
Travel, learn, discover !
Venture where you usually don’t go. Meet new people, new cultures, new artistic disciplines, everything that could enrich your cultural and spiritual background.
Everything you will see, hear, taste will be recorded and stocked into you « internal hard drive ». Consciously or unconsciously, it will enrich your pieces of art and learn you more about your « Internal Artist ».
The more diversified are your sources of inspiration, the more powerful and deep will be your creations.
Furthermore, at every new vibration, at every new emotion coming from a discovery you will learn more about yourself. And the knowledge of yourself is crucial for each Artist.
Dare, risk, experiment, even if it doesn't motivate you at first sight. You will never know if you don’t test it.
The Owlie’s word : « Don’t make the mistake to think that as nobody talks about it around you or in the media, it does not worth anything !! »
Tip #5 : Learn to know yourself
Being artist, creating something… It consists in expressing who you really are, deep inside, and expose it to the world.
Each person is totally Each person is totally unique. It does'nt exist two persons on Earth with exactly the same personality, the same background, the same culture, the same expectations…
Once you've got it, the funny part is to research for every single thing that define yourself. What you like, what you desire, what makes you happy, angry, what you care about…
What makes you « you » and no one else !

To learn these things, Art will give you big keys or even, in some cases, reveal them to you by making you discover sore points you didn't suspected.
That also explains why all people don’t have the same reactions to Art. They react according to their nature because authentic Art has this power to enter and touch people’s deep nature.
It is up to you to identify what kind of Art you are receptive to, what subjects, the nature of your reactions…
Finally, you realize that Art is a spreading way to know oneself.
A piece of Art that works on you will teach you about yourself and after, you will be able to express it through your own work or lifestyle and give keys to other people in your turn and so on…
If one day, Art disappeared, we would lose ourselves. We would not consider ourselves as unique ones but pieces of a system. We would lose our identity. We would not « be » anymore.
The Owlie’s word : « Meditation is also a great way to learn about yourself. And don’t worry ! The lotus position is not indispensable. »
Tip #6 : Acknowledge and accept others opinions
Each opinion is valuable (providing it’s sincere : not influenced)
Sincere opinion of a person shows most of the time a part of who she is.
We all are different, so it is not unusual to meet people with a divergent interpretation from ours on a piece of work, a person or general life.
But it does not mean that either is wrong. They are different, exactly as the person is different from you.
There is no right or wrong, you are both right as long as you are according to yourselves.
Acknowledge and accept this reality avoid you to make these mistakes :
- To give up your opinion, your nature, to let you convince by the other, to fit with his opinion and let the influence win.
- To push the other away his own nature.
It will not be a good thing for any of you. It means you refuse the idea that you are different, while you naturally are.
Differences do not trouble harmony of relationships, but the inability to acknowledge and accept them does.
The Owlie’s word : « Enter into conflict with yourself and you will enter into conflict with the others. »
Tip #7 : Accept the idea people think you are crazy
Since the moment you express the person you are deep inside, as you are unique, you look like no one else. You are completely out from the crowd. No one can classify you into a community because it will always be something too different in you from the others of the group. Some people will take the liberty to « classify » you as crazy.

But let’s make things clear. When you have a person who follows his heart, lives his life in total freedom, takes happiness as it comes in front of a person who spends his life rejecting himself in the only intention to fit with society, living a life he did not choose in which he is a prisoner, running after a influenced happiness, desperately trying to convince himself he's happy…
I am wondering who is the craziest :)
Tip #8 : Don't stay too close to Media
External influences avoid Artists to express themselves as they really are because they impose a vision different from theirs.
At this game, Media are excellent !
My advice is to stay away the most possible from mass-media which use a well-known mental manipulation technic called « numbing ». It consists in repeating constantly the same information, the same atmosphere in different ways until your brain integrate it as a reality.
This kind of influence is certainly the strongest because it is really difficult to identify it and get rid of it.
Media are meant to be the « Voice of people ». In other words, it represents the appropriate attitude, the suitable lifestyle, the good way to think of society. So, the more you blindly follow it, the further you move away from your proper nature which is unique.
Conventions transmitted in Media apply to everybody. As an Artist, what you are looking for is precisely the opposite !
Make your own opinion in harmony with your nature, your values, your ethic, your own interpretation of events.
The Owlie’s word : I know, you’ll tell me : " Yes, but if I am unable to talk about news that everybody heard about, how will I be considered ? "
Well, I’ll answer you that if you have solved the point #1, you won’t even ask this question ;) »
Tip #9 : Make constraints more pleasant
The final purpose of an Artist, as any human on earth, is to be happy by blossoming through his creations and his life. An Artist should never be forced to create… but inspired. Inspired by the desire to share to the world what's inside himself.
An Artist can also create to feel better, to vent some frustrations, angriness or dark feelings. That explains why we can find dark, scary Art… But artistic expression always targets positive aims.
That is why the Artist should be able to use his creativity and imagination to make any constraint more pleasant and fun for him. And for that, use any means !
Example of every day life : you must fill in paperwork (what more constraining ? ). How to make it funnier or less unpleasant ? :
• Improve your conditions : Do it while you listening your favorite song or watching a movie you adore or, if you can’t concentrate with background sounds, go out in fresh air, sit out in the sun in a nicer place than your study. You can also light an incense stick and put on sounds of Nature, songbirds, sounds of the sea... (that is what I do).
• Modify the context : Fill in your paperwork as if you were writing a letter to your lover in feudal times by using a beautiful calligraphy for example… Get your imagination running.
• Make it a masterpiece : Use colors, draw symbols,… It is possible that you make a pleasant surprise to the person who will receive your files. Some colors and warmth in all this cold and impersonal pile of work, it is always a plus.
The Owlie’s word : « These methods can work for any constraint in life. Just pay attention to stay « legal », that no one bothers you for juridic stuffs. You will see how much it can change your mood and your vision of life ! ».
Tip #10 : Go back to childhood
You can’t imagine the number of creative and imaginative treasures in the mind of a child. Try to go the furthest you can back to your childhood, when you unconsciously applied every single point of this article.
It is commonly admitted by society that children must learn from adults, listen quietly and obey to them. But if you really want to reveal your « Internal Artist », children will be your best guides.
Inspire yourself with them. They have a lot to teach you.
Learn from them, really listen to them, find back the one staying inside yourself and it will be the « Golden gate » to your deep nature and your freedom.
